Our Capabilities

What Wensculp can do for your parish

Most suppliers sell you a statue. As a working foundry since 1972, we solve the problems that come before and after the statue — the ones parish committees actually get stuck on.

We sculpt from whatever you have

A photograph of an old statue, a holy card, a line drawing, or just a description of the devotion. No CAD file or professional artwork required.

We replace and restore existing statues

Damaged, stolen or deteriorated beyond repair — we cast a faithful bronze replacement matched to the original proportion, style and finish.

We handle any scale, including monumental

From a 60 cm altar figure to a 10 m hilltop Christ. Large works are cast in sections over an internal stainless steel armature and assembled on site.

We work with committees, not just buyers

Free 3D renderings for council approval, formal quotations for diocesan submission, staged payments, and presentation images for bulletins.

We ship, install and stand behind it

Export crating, worldwide shipping, anchor bolt drawings for your contractor, and on-site installation for monumental commissions.

One factory is accountable

From the first sketch to the final anchor bolt — design, clay, casting, patina, crating, shipping and installation all happen under one roof.

How It's Made

How we cast a bronze religious statue

Eight stages, all under one roof. Nothing is outsourced — and nothing is poured until you approve the clay.

1
Design & Engineering
Pose, proportion and every iconographic detail confirmed against your tradition. Steel armature engineered for wind and seismic load.
2
Clay Model
Sculpted to religious proportion — form first, then drapery. Photographs go to your pastor or committee for approval.
3
Moulding & Wax Pattern
Silicone moulds taken, hollow wax patterns cast, parting lines hand-refined, pouring channels welded to form the wax tree.
4
Ceramic Shell & Burnout
Repeated slurry dipping and sanding builds a refractory shell; steam and kiln melt out the wax — the "lost wax".
5
Bronze Melting & Pouring
Alloy proportioned precisely, melted above 1000°C, poured steadily so bronze fills the finest detail and gas escapes clean.
6
Chasing & Assembly
Sections TIG-welded with seams hidden in the drapery folds, then ground back and the texture hand-recut so joins disappear.
7
Patina & Gilding
Chemically patinated, gilded or gold-leafed. Face and hands finished by a senior craftsman — the stage that decides reverence.
8
Shipping & Installation
Export crating, worldwide shipping, on-site lifting and seam touch-in. Indoor care is dry dusting; outdoor works re-waxed periodically.
Nothing is poured until your parish approves the clay.

Stage 2 and Stage 7 are where a religious statue is won or lost — the likeness and the face. Both are reviewed with you before we go further.

Real cast bronze vs cold-cast resin

Much of what is sold online as "bronze" is cold-cast bronze — a resin blend with bronze powder, typically 80% resin. It looks like bronze until it weathers. Wensculp casts solid bronze only.

Accuracy & Durability

Theologically accurate. Built to stand outdoors for generations.

A religious statue is not decoration — it is a devotional and theological statement that will serve your parish for generations.

  • 1
    Every iconographic element confirmed
Attributes, gestures, vesture, symbols — checked against your tradition and approved by your pastor or committee before casting.
  • 2
    Internal stainless steel armature
Anchored to the base — no structural failure in high wind. Anchor bolts and base plate drawings supplied for your contractor.
  • 3
    Freeze-thaw and UV stable
Solid bronze does not crack, chalk or fade. The patina deepens with age instead of deteriorating.
