This ensemble belongs to the “Old Hankou Breakfast (Guozao) Folklore Sculpture Series,” situated within the Jianghan Road / Hankou Water Tower Historic District (Yikangli Pedestrian Street) in Wuhan. It provides a high-fidelity restoration of Wuhan’s century-old breakfast culinary heritage.
“Guozao” is a cultural tradition unique to Wuhan. During the late Qing and Republican periods, the alleyways of Hankou were teeming with breakfast vendors. The master chef preparing Hot Dry Noodles street-side remains the most iconic scene of the city’s vibrant daily life. The central figure depicts a street vendor holding a porcelain bowl in one hand while lifting noodles with long chopsticks in the other. The installation features a replica of a traditional iron pot, accompanied by a long wooden table and bench, providing a complete reconstruction of an authentic historic street food stall.
