The Great Tea Road Sculptural Ensemble

The Great Tea Road: A Monumental Sculptural Ensemble at the Hankou Riverfront

Located in the Great Tea Road Cultural Park on the Hankou Riverfront in Wuhan, Hubei, this is an iconic, large-scale thematic landscape sculptural ensemble of the Great Tea Road.

Hankou served as the south-central starting point of the Great Tea Road and the “Oriental Tea Port.” During the Qing Dynasty, tea from across China converged here before being transported via land and water to Russia and Eastern Europe, establishing the city as the core hub of Sino-Russian trade. The entire ensemble restores the full-chain scenarios of the late Qing tea trade: from Russian merchants’ procurement and porters transshipping tea chests to business negotiations and contract signings between Chinese and foreign merchants, and even aristocratic tea-tasting balls—fully recreating the grandeur of Hankou’s foreign trade along the Great Tea Road.

Figurative Sculptures in the Round: Cast Tin Bronze with a Blue-Green Mineral Antique Patina (Verdigris).

Utilizing outdoor-grade weather-resistant tin bronze, specifically engineered to withstand high humidity, acid rain, and intense solar exposure in Yangtze riverfront environments. The entire surface features a blue-green verdigris finish imitating natural atmospheric weathering. Deepened dark cyan tones are applied to recessed drapery folds, while protruding fabric and facial features are highlighted with light blue to accentuate volumetric depth.

Background Relief Wall + European Portico: Yellow Rust Stone / Pink Sandstone.

Carved from monolithic stone blocks with a dense, weather-resistant texture. The light beige stone creates a striking thermal contrast between the warm masonry and the cool blue-green bronze.

Ground: Antique bluestone paving, curated to align with the project’s European vintage ambiance.

Sandstone Relief & Stone Portal Craftsmanship

Our fabrication process integrates high-precision stone CNC rough carving with artisanal manual refinement of relief textures, Cyrillic typography, and intricate dome ornamentation. This is followed by precision edge grinding and the application of an outdoor-grade hydrophobic protective coating to ensure long-term environmental durability.
